Met Gala 2021: Red Carpet Hits & Misses

The Met Gala has finally returned and the stars of Hollywood definitely brought their A-game this year. The 2021 theme was “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” which definitely inspired some memorable ensembles, whether it be for the better or for the worse. Follow along as we roundup some of the 2021 Met Gala’s red carpet fashion hits and misses:

12. Miss: Debbie Harry

When it comes to events with a theme, it’s important to honor the theme without allowing it to overpower. For Debbie Harry, we felt that she and Zac Posen took the 2021 Met Gala theme a little too seriously with a dress that reflected the American flag with its red stripes and star brooch.

11. Hit: Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson looked stunning at this year’s Met Gala where she rocked this baby pink two piece set. We love that this look felt super feminine and the feathered layer draped around her shoulders really brought the Met Gala glamour factor.

10. Miss: Jennifer Lopez

There’s no denying that all eyes were on J.Lo when she walked the red carpet at this year’s Met Gala, but we’re not sure it was for the right reasons! While we love the beaded detailing and chocolate tones on her dress, we felt the look was a little too overwhelmed by accessories from the double necklaces to the dramatic hat.

9. Hit: Kaia Gerber

Kaia Gerber channelled old Hollywood glamour with her classic black look she wore to this year’s Met Gala. While the colour of this dress is quite understated, we love all the detail involved with the pouf-style skirt, corset bodice and appliqué detailing.

8. Miss: Billie Eilish

While we love the shape and drama of this dress worn by Billie Eilish at the Met Gala, we’re not totally sure the colour was the most flattering since this light shade of peach seemed to wash her out. We also weren’t the biggest fans of her hair and makeup look, which seemed to age her rather than appear youthful and fun.

7. Hit: Yara Shahidi

Yara Shahidi stole the show with her beaded champagne colored dress at the 2021 Met Gala. This look was the perfect combination of classic and glitzy, while still bringing the drama with her long organza train and satin gloves.

6. Miss: Kim Petras

Kim Petras definitely missed the mark with this look she opted for at the 2021 Met Gala. While we can definitely appreciate an out-of-the-box fashion moment for this particular event, the 3-dimensional horse felt highly questionable.

5. Hit: Barbie Ferreira

We absolutely love this pearl look worn by Euphoria star Barbie Ferreira at this year’s Met Gala. The intricate beading and pearl detailing felt very flapper-inspired in the most 2021 way. Bold, chic and classic, this look definitely stole the show!

4. Miss: Hailey Bieber

Hailey Bieber is considered one of this generation’s modern style icons, which is why we had high expectations for her look at this year’s Met Gala. While we love this classic black dress, we definitely felt a little underwhelmed by its simplicity and expected something more dramatic and fashion-forward.

3. Hit: Emma Chamberlain

Emma Chamberlain made jaws drop with this gorgeous beaded look that she wore at the 2021 Met Gala. From the cutouts to the intricate beading, this gold ensemble looks like it was made for her!

2. Miss: Kim Kardashian

One of the most disappointing fashion moments from this year’s Met Gala was unfortunately from Kim Kardashian! Kim is known for bringing the red carpet drama every year at the Met, but this look missed the mark — mostly because we couldn’t even see her face!

1. Hit: Kendall Jenner

When it comes to our favorite look of the night, we have to give kudos to Kendall Jenner! We absolutely love this sheer, beaded number that she rocked at the 2021 Met Gala. The silver number fit her like a glove and definitely made heads turn for all the right reasons.
