After two successful seasons of The Masked Singer, Fox has announced its first spinoff of the new reality series on Tuesday, January 7.

The Masked Dancer was inspired by a popular segment that was featured on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. In the spinoff’s new format, secret celebrity contestants will perform a unique choreographed dance, while wearing head-to-toe intricate costumes to cover their face and body.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show first introduced the game after The Masked Singer became an instant hit. Howie Mandel, Sean Hayes, Derek Hough and Ken Jeong have all played along on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show. DeGeneres will serve as an executive producer on The Masked Dancer.

“This is gonna be just as fun and suspenseful as The Masked Singer but with a lot more Krumping and I cannot wait,” DeGeneres said.

“We’re still blown away by The Masked Singer’s massive impact on pop culture, but when Ellen debuted her own inventive segment, The Masked Dancer, on her show, we were truly amazed,” Rob Wade, President, Alternative Entertainment & Specials, FOX Entertainment, said in a statement on Tuesday. “We are thrilled to partner with Ellen on this new format and take The Masked Dancer to a whole new creative level.”

The Masked Singer first debuted in January 2019. The panel of celebrity judges includes Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy and Jeong. Nick Cannon will return as host. It was announced earlier this week that Jamie Foxx would be joining as a guest panelist on the season 3 premiere of the show.

Celebrities who have competed on the show include Raven Symoné, Michelle Williams, Seal, Joey Fatone, Tori Spelling, Rumer Willis, T-Pain, and Wayne Brady.

Season 3 of The Masked Singer premieres on Sunday, February 2, at 10:30 p.m. ET following the Super Bowl. Then It will be moved to a different time slot and will air on February 5, at 8 p.m. ET.

No details about The Masked Dancer‘s debut has been released.
